Aloha!

My first session as senator was intense but rewarding.  I am happy to say that we were successful in having several significant measures passed.  However, much more can and needs to be done for this state.  If we are serious about bringing about change, we need to have a vision and clear understanding of what we hope to accomplish and a commitment and determination to achieve this end.

There is a lot that can be done whether in leaps and bounds or in measured footsteps.  Priorities need to be established as to how we can begin to enable the vision to become a reality and what we need to do to keep the process moving.

There are important issues and challenges facing us. We need to address the budget deficit.  We need to make our state globally competitive, strengthen our economy, assure that local agriculture can prosper and expand, create economic development opportunities for rural areas of the state and create more jobs so that we can move forward into the future with confidence.

I am prepared to meet the challenges before us and understand the tremendous responsibility we have in ensuring that our actions today help make Hawaii better for generations to come.  My commitment and dedication to public service are fervent and stronger than ever.  There is no doubt that Hawaii is a very special place.  There is nowhere else that can match our aloha spirit, the feeling of ohana and the diverse cultures that make Hawaii unique and special.

This is why I work to keep Hawaii as a place that people are proud to call home, that future generations  want to live and work here, that visitors are excited to come here, that we as a state are able to take care of our own.

This is where my passion lies, to make Hawaii even better for all who call Hawaii home.

A Hui Hou,

Donovan M. Dela Cruz

State Senator, District 22
